Angela and Melli, wish-granting volunteers, were eager to accompany Lina on this unique adventure. And Hannover Zoo rolled out the red carpet, as the ASB Wish Team shared on their Facebook. Lina is still younger than 30, but she's battling cancer and receiving palliative care. Despite her pain and queasiness, Lina's got a fire in her to grant her final wish. With Angela, Melli, and her family, she's off to Hannover Zoo for one last glimpse of those magnificent elephants.
Hannover Zoo Bids Farewell to a Special Visitor - "Can't Believe It"
As Lina and co. enter Hannover Zoo, a "guide" whisks them off to the Jungle Palace. Apparently, the zoo team pulled out all the stops to make Lina's wish come true, according to the ASB. Even Califa, the wise old matriarch elephant, seems to sense the gravity of the situation. The giant lets Lina feed her some carrots.
Despite Lina's diminishing strength, she's not ready to say goodbye to the zoo just yet. "And so it goes on. To the lions. To the apes. To the polar bears," writes the ASB. Only when the weather puts a damper on their plans do Lina, her family, and the wish-granters start their reluctant journey back to the clinic. To remember this emotional day at Hannover Zoo, Angela and Melli gift Lina a small plush elephant - "To hold onto. As a comfort. For the memories."
