Yakut Decision: Shaping the Character of Public Spaces

Up until the last voting week for the anticipated construction projects, Yakutians have the chance to select their preferred recreational facilities to be constructed next year in their localities. This exciting initiative is part of the "Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment" program, where residents get to decide on the recreational hub of their choice. The voting kicked off on April 21 and will continue until June 12.

With 76 territories from 34 municipalities in the Republic of Yakutia participating, more than 23,000 locals have cast their votes for facilities they believe are necessary in their communities. This includes parks, squares, embankments, and recreation zones.

If you're a Yakutian aged 14 or above, it's your opportunity to participate! Simply navigate to the portal zagorodsreda.gosuslugi.ru, choose your region and preferred settlement, and cast your ballot for your preferred project.

In the city of Yakutsk, you can choose from 8 proposals, such as the "White Lake" in the Gagarin District or the embankment of Lake Syrgylakh in the DSD district, where the emerging "Star" microdistrict is located. Remember, each person gets one vote, and it could significantly impact the outcome.

As of now, the voting figures are less than impressive, but here are some interesting trends. For instance, 151 votes went to the "Builders' Square" at the intersection of Kalvitsa, Sverdlov, Zhornitskogo, and Pirogov streets, while 183 locals are rooting for improvements at the White Lake. On the other hand, over 1,000 people have voters for "Eternal Memory to the Warriors-Yakuts who fell under Rzhev in 1941-1943" square near the house on 11 Khabarova Street in Yakutsk, demonstrating significant community interest.

Leading the pack is the square developed by the "Naked Hearts" foundation, a kids' playground on Taloy Lake's shore. Currently, 1,295 votes have been cast for its restoration. The playground demands restoration, and its fate now lies in the hands of the citizens!

The "Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment" program is a key component of the national project "Infrastructure for Life," initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Previously, it was a part of the "Housing and Urban Environment" national project. From 2019 to 2024, 101 public spaces have been improved in Yakutia, including parks, squares, and recreation zones.
