Witten's Business Future Boosted by €5.6M Fiber Optic Network Expansion
Witten's future as a business hub has taken a significant step forward with the commencement of a federal and state-funded fiber optic network expansion. The groundbreaking ceremony, attended by Mayor Lars König, Deputy Minister Sabine Kelm-Schmidt, and other officials, marked the start of this crucial project.
The expansion, set to cover around 55 kilometers, will provide stable and high-performance internet to approximately 400 business addresses. These are primarily located in Wullner Field, Westerweide, and Im Hammertal. The project, funded by a 5.6 million euro grant, is expected to be a game-changer for Witten's economic viability.
HT-Tiefbau has been contracted to construct the route deep, with fiber optic cables to follow. This method allows addresses along the route to secure a house connection at a relatively low price. Moreover, the expansion will also provide house connections for underserved business addresses without additional cost.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 10, 2023, on the former sports field at Horseshoe Street. With this expansion, Witten is poised to become even more attractive for businesses, thanks to the improved connectivity it will provide.
