In a collaborative effort to boost the local wine industry and cultural landscape, Minister Rainer Zeller and the wine-growing associations of Baden and Württemberg have agreed to promote their excellent wines together. This joint initiative, which aims to make German wines popular again, is expected to be developed by spring 2026.

The decline in wine consumption within Germany and Baden-Württemberg has been a concern for both the minister and the winemakers. While the quality of the wines remains high, various factors have contributed to the decrease. However, the winemakers are determined to find solutions to this challenge.

The concept requires significant increases in marketing efforts and a new, powerful marketing strategy. The minister and the wine-growing associations are united in their belief that reducing regulations, bureaucracy, and barriers in viticulture will also play a crucial role in the success of this initiative.

The President of the Württemberg Winegrowers' Association e.V., Dietrich Rembold, is supportive of the ministry's initiative. Rembold, who serves as the winegrowers' president in the organization "Weinbauverband Württemberg", has emphasised the need for intensive discussions following the wine harvest to develop a comprehensive plan.

The joint concept, when finalised, is expected to make Baden and Württemberg wines a bestseller once again. With about 40% of the wine consumed in Germany currently originating from Germany, there is a significant opportunity to increase this percentage and support the local wine industry.

While a parafiscal levy for wine advertising has been proposed, it is not feasible in the short term. Nevertheless, the marketing efforts for these wines will be substantially increased, ensuring they are promoted effectively and reach a wider audience.

This collaboration between the minister and the wine-growing associations marks a significant step towards revitalising the German wine industry and promoting the excellent wines of Baden and Württemberg.
