In the heart of Mumbai's bustling Bandra neighbourhood, Studio SKO, led by Founder and Principal Designer Salonee Kothari, has transformed a 1500 sq ft apartment into a contemporary haven that seamlessly blends Japanese design principles and open layouts.

The apartment's design, inspired by the Japandi trend, focuses on minimalist and functional aesthetics. The open concept layout promotes fluidity between spaces, allowing natural light and air to flow freely, creating an airy and breezy atmosphere.

Minimalist details with clean lines and simplicity are evident throughout the interiors, emphasising calmness and functionality while maximising space. To balance openness with privacy, Studio SKO uses foldable doors made of fluted glass that maintain the seamless flow of the layout when open but can close off areas as needed for privacy or functional use.

The apartment's living, dining, and kitchen areas are anchored by a central dining table, while the den, a separate area designed for reading or relaxing, features a unique wooden platform instead of a traditional sofa. This design choice encourages a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for unwinding.

True to Japanese design ethos, the home integrates natural textures and greenery, nurturing a serene environment that connects indoor living with nature's tranquility. The result is a spacious, calming, and highly functional apartment that embodies minimalism, natural harmony, and multifunctional openness.

Salonee Kothari stated that the clients' initial design brief was for ample open spaces and modern aesthetics, which Studio SKO has successfully achieved while incorporating the Japandi design philosophy. The restored apartment, with its inviting atmosphere and thoughtful design, is a testament to Studio SKO's commitment to creating functional and aesthetically pleasing living spaces.
