New Orient Mako 75th Anniversary Dive Watches Unveiled
Vibrant and budget-friendly timepieces from Orient boast a fashionable and eye-catching design
Japanese watchmaker Orient has announced the release of five new dive watches, marking the brand's 75th anniversary. These watches, available now, are priced between £330 and £400.
The Mako 75th Anniversary Dive Watch
The flagship model, the Mako 75th Anniversary dive watch (model RN-AA0823L), boasts a 41.8mm stainless steel case, sapphire crystal glass, screwed crown and caseback, unidirectional rotating bezel, and is powered by the Orient automatic F6922 caliber movement with a 40-hour power reserve. It includes a day-date display with bilingual day wheels (English and Japanese), is limited to 6,000 pieces worldwide, and has water resistance suitable for diving.
The Mako 40 Dive-Style Watch
In contrast, the Mako 40 dive-style watch comes in three colour options: green, red, and dark grey, all with a yellow tip on the second hand and a date window at the three o'clock position. This smaller watch, with a 39.9 mm stainless steel case, is also available in a limited edition Peanuts 75th Anniversary model, limited to 3,800 pieces.
Key Differences
The Mako 75th Anniversary watch is larger (41.8mm) compared to the Mako 40 (around 39.9mm). In terms of movement, the Mako 75th Anniversary watch uses the F6922 automatic movement with a 22-jewel day-date bilingual display, while the Mako 40 Peanuts edition uses the F6722 automatic movement with hand-winding and hacking features, offering a date-only function.
The Mako 75th Anniversary watch typically comes with a metal bracelet, while the Peanuts edition features a leather strap. The dial design and thematic styling also differ, with the Mako 75th Anniversary model sporting a coastal-inspired blue dial, and the Peanuts edition featuring a special white dial and thematic branding.
Shared Features
Both watches share common dive watch features such as screw-down crowns, unidirectional bezels, sapphire crystals, and 200m water resistance. The grey and green Mako 40 models feature a newly designed silicone strap with embossed striping, while the red dial variant comes with a stainless steel bracelet. All the new watches are part of Orient's 75th anniversary celebrations and are limited to 6,000 examples per variant.
Availability and Pricing
The Mako 75th Anniversary watch is priced at £399.99, while the Mako 40 models range from £330 to £359.99. One of the Mako 40 models has already gone out of stock on Orient's own website.
The new watches are a testament to Orient's commitment to quality and innovation, blending classic dive watch features with modern design and limited edition themes. Whether you're a collector or a casual watch enthusiast, these new Orient Mako 75th Anniversary dive watches are sure to catch your eye.
Smart-home-devices and technology have made it possible to monitor the water resistance of the new Mako 75th Anniversary dive watches, ensuring they are suitable for diving. The announcement has also highlighted the connection between fashion-and-beauty and the watch industry, with the limited edition Peanuts 75th Anniversary Mako 40 model featuring a special white dial and thematic branding. Contemporary gadgets have also allowed Orient to create unique designs for the Mako watches, such as the new silicone strap with embossed striping on the grey and green Mako 40 models.
