Vacation season: busiest lake bypassed as roads are shut off
Lake Starnberg, a popular tourist destination, is currently undergoing renovation works that will affect access to the area. Unlike initially announced, the two bridges cannot be used alternately during the renovation, causing some disruptions.
The construction works are taking place at Lake Starnberg and are expected to last until the end of 2025. This closure, starting August 4th, will make access to popular bathing places more difficult. State road 2065 north of St. Heinrich will be completely closed during this period.
However, visitors are not left without options. The popular tour "Around Lake Starnberg" remains unrestricted in the southeastern area for cyclists, as long as they only use the cycle path. Cyclists can also pass through the closed section of state road 2065 between St. Heinrich (Pischetsried) and Holzhausen (Buchscharn).
For those who prefer to use public transport, the S-Bahn or shuttle buses can be considered. A paid shuttle bus service from Starnberg Nord (S6 suburban station) is available, running until the last train departs, which may help bypass closed road areas.
Exploring other lakes in the region could also be an option. Lake Ammersee, nearby, offers similar recreational opportunities. It's essential to check local transport updates or tourist information centers for real-time accessible bathing spots during the current road closure period.
The RVO bus 373 between Wolfratshausen, Munich, and Seeshaupt is affected by the closure, and passengers should check the current timetable information of the MVV before their journey.
The closure of state road 2065 is due to bridge renovations over the Karnifflbach and Buchscharnbach. The State Building Authority Weilheim is responsible for these works and is renovating two bridges simultaneously.
Car drivers can use the A95 with exits Wolfratshausen and Seeshaupt, or the route via Beuerberg, Eurasburg, and Achmühle (St 2064, St 2370, B11, St 2371) as detours for Lake Starnberg.
Reporter Susanne Weiß from the Merkur distribution area is covering the closure and renovation works. The bathing place at the small lakeside house is still accessible from the south (St. Heinrich), also only from one direction. The construction works at Lake Starnberg are influencing the lifestyle of outdoor-living enthusiasts, as the closure of state road 2065 impacts access to popular bathing places from August 4th. To mitigate the disruption, home-and-garden lovers can consider exploring alternative lakes in the region such as Lake Ammersee, which offers similar recreational opportunities.
