Urban Progression or City Advancement Day
On May 10, 2025, the city of Detmold will host its annual Urban Development Day, an event aimed at showcasing tangible improvements in urban development and fostering dialogue between residents, experts, and city officials. Under the motto "Vibrant Places. Strong Communities.", the day promises a varied programme that caters to all ages.
The event kicks off at 2 pm, with a series of exciting stations between 2 pm and 5 pm. One of the highlights includes a neighbourhood walk through the historic old town, led by Cornelia Müller-Hisje. This walk offers a unique opportunity to explore the renovated buildings and learn about the urban development changes in life in neighbourhoods.
At 3 pm, a special neighbourhood walk will take place through the former British settlement. For the first time, a 360-degree tour will also be offered on the Urban Development Day subpage of the city portal, providing a virtual experience for those who cannot attend in person.
A construction site tour on Schloßplatz will focus on sustainable development of a central urban space, offering insights into the city's commitment to creating modern, eco-friendly living spaces.
Children can participate in a fun and engaging children's rally through the old town, complete with an interactive participation card. Meanwhile, the team from "Heimspiel OWL" of the Sportverband Detmold will be at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz, offering games and activities to keep the little ones entertained.
From 6 pm, the city invites participants to the Hotel Wertschätzer in Krumme Straße for discussions on urban development, old building renovation, and development prospects. This evening exchange promises to be an enlightening and engaging session for those interested in shaping the future of Detmold.
Mayor Frank Hilker, a strong advocate for affordable, modern housing, plans to implement more projects like the "Detmold Model" for affordable housing in the city. In line with this, he intends to contact the new Federal Minister of Housing, Verena Hubertz, to promote such housing projects more strongly.
Admission to all events is free, making this a must-attend event for anyone interested in urban development, community building, and the future of Detmold. The meeting point for the neighbourhood walk is at Siegfriedstraße / corner Adenauerstraße.
So mark your calendars for May 10, 2025, and join the city of Detmold in celebrating its vibrant places and strong communities at the Urban Development Day 2025. Urban development, after all, lives from dialogue and participation. See you there!
