Neuss: The Upcoming Green Transformation

Stepping Stone to 2026. With the Landesgartenschau looming over the horizon, Neuss is set to undergo a major change in its cityscape. The team behind this project is leaving no stone unturned, ensuring everything is ready come 2026. A whopping 2000 trees are set to be planted, with the first 200 already taking root. This summer, the expansion of the core area will kick off, marking a significant phase in the preparation process. These developments are guided by the visions of Franz Reschke Landschaftsarchitektur GmbH.

A City United for Green initiatives. The populace of Neuss and the Mitmachverein Grünes Herz - Bürgerpark Neuss e.V. are playing a pivotal role in shaping this green revolution. Sports, play, and leisure facilities are slated to pop up across the city, incorporating existing spaces like the skate park into the mix.

Gardenland's Central Hub. The eastern section of the city will serve as the heart of the gardens, under the working title "Gardenland". Around 20 garden plots will adorn a space of approximately 10,000 m2, set amidst a Mesmerizing sea of blooming perennials and orchards. These plots will be transformed into theme gardens by North Rhine-Westphalian horticultural businesses during the Landesgartenschau, offering a visual spectacle. Post-2026, these plots will become "participatory gardens" through urban gardening endeavors.

An Inclusive Network. Since the first information event in November 2023, the network of interested parties has been rapidly expanding, comprising associations and groups. The focus now lies in striking a balance between various ideas on communal gardening and ensuring the long-term management of the area after the Landesgartenschau. Many groundbreaking ideas are being proposed by the network itself, with inspiration sought from outings and exchanges.

A Series of Events Awaits. The project is merely gathering pace. Until the Landesgartenschau opens its doors in spring 2026, the LAGA GmbH has planned a series of events to keep the excitement brewing. During the garden show itself, there will be an action area or model garden, providing a glimpse into the future of the garden area beyond 2026. Those eager to contribute to this transformation are cordially invited to reach out to the Landesgartenschau GmbH.
