Updated swimming pool costs effective from October

Lübeck, the historic Hanseatic city in northern Germany, has announced plans to increase the entry fees for its swimming pools starting from October 1, 2025. The decision aims to maintain the swimming pool infrastructure as part of public services and address rising energy and operating costs, as well as the growing need for municipal subsidies.

The official website for Lübeck's swimming pools is luebecker-schwimmbaader.de. For those seeking a visual guide, the swimming pools can be found on Google Maps. The city's swimming pools are located at Central Bath (Schmiedestr. 5-7), Swimming Pool Kücknitz (Flenderstraße 87a), Sports Bath St. Lorenz (Ziegelstraße 152), Moisling Outdoor Pool (Pennmoor 1), and Schlutup Outdoor Pool (Palinger Weg 70).

The new prices will enable a higher, but still socially balanced cost coverage. Without the price adjustment, the cost coverage rate for Lübeck's swimming pools would drop to 17.5 percent, below the state average of 42 percent. After the increase, about 27.5 percent of the actual costs will be covered per visit, compared to the previous 20 percent.

Children under three years old, accompanying persons of people with disabilities (B), and holders of summer holiday tickets and bonus cards will continue to have free entry. Reduced prices for children, young people, students, trainees, people with severe disabilities, Lübeck-Card holders, and certain groups will also remain. Children will pay 3 euros or 1.50 euros with a reduction. Adults will pay 7 euros, with reduced tickets costing 3.50 euros.

The decision to increase swimming pool fees in Lübeck is a commitment to maintaining swimming pool infrastructure as part of public services. In a direct comparison with other North German cities, Lübeck remains in the middle range in terms of swimming pool entrance fees. For example, the Campusbad Flensburg charges 15 euros for adults, while Hamburg charges 11.10 euros. The price increase sets a sign for social participation in Lübeck's swimming pools, reflecting the city's dedication to providing accessible and affordable public recreational facilities.
