Up for bid on auction: Ayrton Senna's personally owned 1987 Porsche 911 Cabriolet, featuring the legendary racer's signature within.

Ayrton Senna's 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Cabriolet, a cherished piece of motorsport history, is currently up for auction at SBX Cars. This Silver Metallic (original L980) 1987 model is not just another air-cooled 911; it's a tangible piece of Formula 1 history from arguably the greatest driver who ever lived.

Powered by a 3.2L air-cooled flat-six engine producing 217 horsepower, the car features a G50 5-speed manual transmission. The interior boasts power-adjustable seats, air conditioning, and a period-correct Blaupunkt Montreux AM/FM cassette radio.

The car's pedigree is confirmed by its original OH-18-13 license plate and Senna's signature, still visible on the back of the driver's seat. During breaks from Formula 1, Senna used this Porsche to explore the Portuguese countryside.

Officially owned by Senna's close friend Antonio Carlos de Almeida Braga, known as "Braguinha," the car was modified after Senna's death. However, in 2024, Portuguese specialists Love My Car undertook a restoration to return the car to its original specifications. The attention to detail followed Porsche assembly manual standards throughout, ensuring the car looks and feels exactly as it did when Senna signed the driver's seat.

The power of provenance has pushed this example into entirely different territory compared to a comparable 1987 911 Cabriolet. The car is documented with extensive provenance and service records, including a cameo appearance in the 2010 Netflix documentary "Senna."

The auction for the car is ending soon, with bidding currently at €620,000 ($728,700 USD). This price positions it among the most important celebrity-owned Porsches ever offered for sale, symbolising the significance attributed to Senna-related memorabilia and vehicles.
