Unique Romantic-style Garden Owned by GütersloherPair Featured in OWL Do-it-yourself
In the heart of Gütersloh, a charming wild romantic cottage garden has bloomed, captivating visitors with its creative DIY projects and upcycling. This garden, belonging to Susanne and Jürgen Kreft, has gained recognition as one of the most beautiful gardens in East Westphalia-Lippe (OWL), making it a must-visit for garden enthusiasts.
Susanne Kreft, an avid DIY enthusiast and upcycler, has transformed an old jug into a small fountain and an old brake disc from the scrapyard into a unique decorative element. The couple's dedication to creating a distinctive and inviting outdoor space is evident in every corner of their 550 square meter garden.
Thirty years ago, the Krefts moved into their home, and since then, they have transformed it into their own oasis of well-being. The garden, initially more open in design, now greets guests with a massive, wild flower bed upon arrival. The couple has meticulously designed numerous corners and nooks for sitting and lingering, ensuring visitors can truly immerse themselves in the garden's unique atmosphere.
The Krefts' garden is a harmonious blend of wild romantic style and sustainability elements. It does not have manicured lawns, sealed surfaces, gravel, or plastic, making it a haven for wildlife. Instead, it is adorned with various solar lights, tealights, and candles, ensuring the garden looks beautiful in every season and doesn't look bare in the fall and winter.
The garden's pièce de résistance is the self-built garden house, complete with a distinctive artificial turf roof, inside which the Krefts have redecorated with flea market finds, flowers, garlands, cushions, cozy blankets, and more. This stylish retreat is a testament to the Krefts' creativity and their love for transforming everyday items into something extraordinary.
The Krefts are not finished with their garden and have plans for a large greenhouse or a unique insect hotel. They draw inspiration from platforms like Instagram and Pinterest, gardening magazines, or flea markets, constantly seeking new ideas to enhance their garden.
The Krefts' garden is one of the 14 most exciting gardens selected by the editorial team for the "most beautiful garden in OWL" competition this summer. All participants from OWL will be featured on the digital theme page in the coming weeks, and voting will take place online in the first week of September.
Lena Vanessa Bleck, another resident of Guetersloh, is undoubtedly looking forward to exploring this enchanting garden oasis.
