Turkish Embassy participates in 'Healthy City Project' waste recycling activity
The Turkish Embassy in Kuwait recently participated in a recycling event as part of the "Healthy City Project," marking a significant step towards promoting sustainability and environmental awareness in the country.
On July 7, 2025, Ambassador Tuba Nur Sönmez and her team joined forces with the Asimah Governorate of Kuwait and Dahiyat Abdullah Al Salem to collect used household oil, glass bottles, paper, and plastic waste for recycling. The event, held in the area of Dahiyat Abdullah Al Salem, aimed to spread environmental awareness and support a sustainable living culture.
The Turkish Embassy has shown institutional sensitivity regarding zero waste and has implemented necessary practices in line with the "Zero Waste Project," which is being successfully implemented throughout Turkiye. Ambassador Sönmez discussed the project during the event and emphasized the Embassy's commitment to environmental sustainability.
The ambassador also highlighted the importance of starting environmental awareness at home and in schools. She encouraged other diplomatic missions and expatriates in Kuwait to join this initiative, emphasizing Turkey's commitment to environmental leadership both domestically and globally.
The "Healthy City Project" is a long-term initiative under Kuwait's Ministry of Health and local municipalities, aiming to create healthy, sustainable urban environments. The involvement of the Turkish Embassy supports these efforts by engaging community-led environmental programs.
The Embassy of Turkiye has committed to contributing monthly by delivering sorted waste for proper reuse and recycling. This practice aligns with their internal waste separation and recycling efforts.
The event encouraged citizens to deliver recyclable materials to the authorities for recycling. Cooperation, solidarity, and awareness activities aimed at strengthening environmental awareness will be continued with determination.
The Turkish Embassy's call to action for other diplomatic missions and expatriates to join the initiative could lead to broader community engagement and more comprehensive environmental awareness programs in Kuwait. This collaborative approach is likely to enhance the impact of both the "Healthy City Project" and similar environmental initiatives in the region.
