Toyota, McDonald's, and Takara Tomy unite to bring joy to children with a collaboration featuring a golden team of characters
Toyota, McDonald's, and Takara Tomy Team Up for Exciting Happy Meal Promotion
In a unique collaboration, Toyota, McDonald's, and Takara Tomy have joined forces to bring excitement to children across Japan. The special promotional campaign, featuring a toy car series called "Special Combined Robot Job Labor," is now part of McDonald's Happy Set (children’s meal) in Japan.
The toy cars, themed around Toyota vehicles and McDonald's delivery trucks, double as robots from the "Special Combined Robot Job Labor" anime and toy series. The promotion started on July 11, 2025, at McDonald's nationwide.
The toy cars come in three waves:
- First wave (July 11-17, 2025): Police Braver Nissan GT-R Patrol Car, Fire Braver Morita MVF Multipurpose Fire Pump Truck, and Sky Braver ANA Jet Passenger Plane.
- Second wave (July 18-24, 2025): MediBraver Toyota Himedic Ambulance, CleanBraver Toyota Dyna Cleaning Truck, and FoodBraver McDonald's Delivery Truck.
- Third wave (from July 25, 2025): Includes one of the six toys from the first and second waves as a bonus.
This year's collaboration marks a first, as it includes transforming toys, a departure from previous Happy Sets that only featured special stickers and merchandise from "Special Combined Robot Job Labor."
To celebrate the release, a campaign was held allowing customers to win tickets to a tour of ANA's aircraft hangars and training facilities by engaging on social media with specific hashtags.
The collaboration leverages Toyota’s vehicle designs, McDonald’s wide family marketing reach, and Takara Tomy’s expertise in toy manufacturing, aiming to delight children with collectible transforming toys that combine popular Japanese robot culture and familiar working vehicles.
In addition to the promotion, WRC champion Kalle Rovanperä and drift driver Ken Gushi show off their flashy drifting skills in the campaign's TV commercial. Rovanperä mentions that matching the timing with the flying drones was the difficult part of the video production.
McDonald's Japan is also celebrating its 10th year of featuring Tomica toy cars in its Happy Meal kids set. The special collaboration between the three companies has resulted in the inclusion of a Toyota GR Corolla model in the Happy Meal toy line. An actual gold GR Corolla and a gold GR 86 were displayed at a McDonald's location in Tokyo. Chairman Akio Toyoda ordered a Happy Meal and expressed joy upon receiving a GR Corolla Tomica. The golden GR Corolla Tomica is one of the toy cars included in the current Happy Meal lineup at McDonald's Japan.
The video posted by Chairman Akio Toyoda on Instagram has generated a lot of buzz due to his excitement over receiving the golden GR Corolla Tomica. The video depicts a child playing with toy cars, with the actions reflected by the real vehicles and 1,000 synchronized drones.
