Conversely, when participants listened to anxious music, they perceived the main character differently, viewing him as less agreeable, more extroverted, less oriented to memories, and perceiving the environment as less cozy [2].
Study 2: Replicating Study 1 with Additional Metrics
Study 2, with 92 participants, replicated the experiment of Study 1 in a lab setting, adding eye-tracking and pupillometric measurements. The study used the Tobii X2-30 Compact for eye-tracking recording and captured gaze data at 30 Hz.
The results largely replicated those of Study 1, showing that anxious music led to wider pupil dilation, indicating increased vigilance and state of alert, and favoured greater attention to minor details. Moreover, participants spent more time focusing on a character who was hard to notice when listening to anxious music [3].
