Tallest wooden structure in Germany constructed in Kreuzberg: UTB erects 98-meter high house
The Oslo-based architectural firm Mad arkitekter has been announced as the winner of the competition for the innovative high-rise project, "WOHO", near Anhalter Bahnhof. This marks the second major project in the area to receive a Nordic signature, following the new construction of the Exile Museum at Anhalter Bahnhof.
The "WOHO" project will consist of four individual structures, derived from the typical Kreuzberg urban air. The residential tower, standing at 98 meters, will be Germany's tallest wooden high-rise building to date. The building's height was reduced from the originally planned 100 meters.
The residential space in the "WOHO" project will be divided equally into rent-controlled apartments, affordable cooperative apartments, and condominiums. UTB Project Management GmbH, which stands for sustainable urban development, is planning an innovative high-rise project near Anhalter Bahnhof. The firm aims for high energy efficiency, environmentally friendly building materials, and a diverse mix of residents.
Of the 18,000 square meters of floor space in the "WOHO" project, 15% is planned for social infrastructure, 25% for commercial facilities, and 60% for residential space. The project aims to reduce private road traffic and implement diverse mobility alternatives, featuring fewer car parking spaces and extensive charging facilities for e-mobility, bicycle garages, and workshops.
The architectural office that designed the "WOHO" project is graadwies. The concept of a vertical, urban quarter with diverse uses has been confirmed and strengthened by the jury. The "WOHO" project, developed by UTB Project Management GmbH, will be a significant addition to the sustainable urban development in Berlin.
It's worth noting that another timber construction project has been built on Lynarstraße in Wedding, but the "WOHO" project is not mentioned in relation to this fact. This article focuses on the "WOHO" project and its unique features, making it stand out among other sustainability projects in the city.
The "WOHO" project is a testament to the growing trend of sustainable urban development and innovative architectural designs in Berlin. The city continues to attract international attention for its forward-thinking approach to urban planning and its commitment to creating livable, diverse, and sustainable neighborhoods.
