Stripped of its authentic 1920s Colonial charm, this residence underwent a transformative makeover. The designer breathed new life into it through vibrant colors, daring patterns, and eccentric furniture, creating something distinct and dynamic.

In a bid to restore the charisma of a 1905 property, newly-minted residents of South Orange, New Jersey, enlisted designer Sarah Storms to revamp the home's first floor. Originally a modish dwelling, the property had been stripped of much of its original character during a previous renovation.

The homeowners, having previously resided in a downtown Seattle loft, yearned for the urban living experiences they had left behind in the suburbs, while desiring a convenient location with modern amenities for their family.

Sarah's mission was to reimagine the living spaces, incorporating both the colorful maximalist taste of one homeowner and the industrial-leaning preferences of the other, while also reconciling these styles with the property's historic roots.

The ambitious remodel endeavored to encompass the kitchen, dining area, living room, and powder room, ultimately creating a harmonious space that catered to the family's lifestyle and showcased their penchant for entertaining.

The dining room and living room have become a vibrant fusion of styles, with the contrasting personality of the statement coffee table providing a captivating centerpiece amidst the geometric pattern of the carpet and wallpaper. The walls of the living room house a baby grand piano, a cherished family heirloom and integral part of the home's design.

The kitchen is the heart of the home, boasting deep blue cabinets, a rugged brick backsplash, and a striking custom kitchen island measuring 39 inches in height, designed specifically for the husband's comfort and culinary prowess.

Apoor storage space left by the removal of wall cabinets due to expansive windows was remedied creatively with the installation of stunning bistro shelving, housing plants and functional glassware to meet both aesthetic and practical objectives.

The home bar, christened the "muse" for its influential role in establishing the home's color scheme, serves as a functional and eye-catching addition to the open-plan living space. The wet bar's stunning glass backsplash, sourced from Artistic Tile, has become the foundation for the home's harmoniously balanced color palette.

Ensuring balance and coherence in the design, Sfpah Storms cleverly used color and pattern to create an eclectic space that pays homage to the property's architectural history while embracing modernity and a youthful energy.

Through strategic planning, meticulous attention to detail, and a flair for blending esthetic styles, the overhauled property now offers a functional, family-friendly dwelling that blends the appeal of the past with the needs of contemporary life.
