The graduating class of the Eugen-Bolz-Gymnasium in Rottenburg found themselves in an unexpected situation after a graduation prank went awry. On July 9th, the students decided to spray paint the walls and facades of the school building, assuming the paint was washable. However, the paint dried and couldn't be removed, leading to a three-day cleanup job.

Principal Andreas Greis believes the spray action was an accident, and the students have since taken responsibility for their actions. They have been working under the motto: "We messed up, now we're making it right." The students, along with a professional painter and his employee, performed the cleanup job in sweltering heat.

The cleanup job was necessary due to the failed prank, and it came with a hefty price tag. The three-day cleanup job cost the students 9,000 euros. The students had to pay for the damage themselves, and to help cover these costs, student representative Heege launched an appeal on GoFundMe. By Monday afternoon, 4,780 euros had been collected through the campaign.

The school management, janitor, and city, which is the school's sponsor, were initially shocked by the incident. However, they reached a good agreement with the students, recognising their efforts to rectify the situation. Heege stated that the class's bond has become stronger due to the cleanup effort.

Principal Greis hopes that future classes won't repeat the same idea. The graffiti from the prank remains on the school building as a reminder of the incident and the responsibility that comes with actions.

It's worth noting that similar senior pranks involving graffiti or vandalism in schools can lead to serious consequences. These can include criminal charges, school closures, police investigations, and costly property damage. For example, in a recent senior prank at Sequim High School, up to 45 seniors faced charges including second-degree criminal trespass, second-degree burglary, and second-degree malicious mischief.

The students of the Eugen-Bolz-Gymnasium in Rottenburg have learned a valuable lesson this summer. They have not only had to spend their vacation scraping, painting, and tearing off the graffiti, but they have also had to face the financial implications of their actions. The incident serves as a reminder that actions have consequences, and it's important to think carefully before acting.
