Skateboarding lesson for kids and teenagers: industry experts demonstrate important techniques

In the heart of Osnabrück, the Osnabrück Skate Hall at Rosenburg played host to an exciting two-day skateboard workshop for children and young people aged 8-13. Organised by the city's holiday pass, the event saw the participation of local enthusiasts Fiete (10), Sara (11), and Eloa (11), who have been using their equipment for two years, while Eloa joined the fun just half a year ago.

The focus of the workshop was on learning the basics of skateboarding, such as standing securely on the board and driving smoothly. Under the guidance of coach Shpresim and his team, the participants started by moving on a straight track and progressed to more complex maneuvers like the Fakie, which is rolling backwards in the skateboard scene.

Shpresim, a seasoned skateboarder, encouraged the children to try driving down a small ramp after three-quarters of an hour. He praised their skills, likening them to the magic potion of Asterix and Obelix. His team, including holiday pass helper Sarah Knopf and FSJler Laurin Göbel, supervised the children as they took turns practicing on the skateboard track.

The skate hall had a cool underground atmosphere with graffiti and gaps, driving surfaces with interruptions, providing a perfect setting for the workshop. Many participants brought their own skateboards or longboards from home, along with helmets and elbow and knee protectors, ensuring safety was a priority.

The children's progress was noticeable, even without flying through the air. Shpresim and fellow coach Wim agreed that the children showed improvement, with Shpresim offering motivational comments like "What's up with you?", "Is it running?", "Clean", or "Stable" to the children.

As the first day came to a close, Wim mentioned that the second day of the workshop would be more exciting. For those interested in similar skateboard workshops, it's worth noting that related events have taken place in nearby towns like Stemwede, Salzkotten, and the Dümmer-See area.

For detailed information about the Osnabrück workshop or participant progress and techniques learned there, it's recommended to contact local skate clubs, youth centers, or event organisers in Osnabrück.

The children's newfound skateboard skills, initially practiced at the Osnabrück Skate Hall, promise to transform their home-and-garden environments into personal skate parks, enriching their lifestyle with thrilling outdoor activities. By the end of the workshop, with the encouragement from their coaches, they also discovered an interest in joining sports clubs or events in neighboring towns like Stemwede and Dümmer-See area, expanding their skateboarding experiences beyond Osnabrück.
