Showcasing a captivating postcard design from Indonesia: Jia Curated - a hotbed of creativity nestled within the scenic surroundings of Bali.

Jia Curated, a celebrated design event in Bali, Indonesia, is set to return from August 14-18, 2025. This immersive festival, now in its fourth edition, has grown from a forest setting to the abandoned Bali Festival Park, showcasing Southeast Asia's most compelling platforms for design, culture, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

A Celebration of Cultural Heritage and Innovation

Jia Curated, meaning 'curated' in the Indonesian language, was launched in 2022 and stemmed from Jia Collective, a retail space in Canggu, Bali. The festival's mission is to foster connections and conversations across cultures and disciplines, highlighting regional talent and encouraging experimentation. This year’s theme, Evolving Perspectives, focuses on new ideas in architecture, sustainability, and creative expression.

The event emphasizes the Indonesian philosophy of gotong royong, which encourages communal cooperation over individualism. Sustainability initiatives, such as the Waste to Wonder project, will feature architectural installations made from recycled materials, like a bookshop by studio andramatin composed entirely of recycled paper tubes.

Notable Participants and Highlights

Some of the notable participants and highlights for the 2025 edition include:

  • Studio andramatin with the Waste to Wonder bookshop installation
  • Over 150 Indonesian and international brands from diverse creative fields exhibiting at the festival
  • Japanese dancer Jasmine Okubo performing a site-specific choreography in Ong Cen Kuang's installation
  • The Living Character of Teak, an installation and exhibition by Blanco Studio
  • Lana Daya, an Indonesian home textiles label, collaborating with interior architecture studio Thufeil
  • Tokyo-based For The Metal People showcasing sleek cutlery, knives, pots, and pans
  • Studio Shikai, a Taipei-based design studio, curating a Taiwan design showcase with nine designers and brands participating
  • Pietro Franceschini unveiling his first rattan furniture collection, Rotella, made in collaboration with Indonesian manufacturer CVP and crafted by local artisans
  • Ong Cen Kuang debuting a new collection called Jamur, made out of hammered copper and woven copper wire

Embracing Cultural Diversity

The event brings together over 150 Indonesian and international creatives including architects, interior designers, fragrance creators, and sculptors, accompanied by live performances celebrating Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. Notable participants include Jakarta-based designer Alvin T, who will exhibit handcrafted pieces from his latest collections, and Japanese craft duo Straft, who have created an installation named Garuda made out of scorched bamboo.

Citizen of Nowhere, a project from Thailand, collaborates with non-profits to create limited edition collections that celebrate the underrated creative talents of craft communities and will participate in Jia Curated. Additionally, social enterprise Du’Anyam, which empowers over 1,600 women artisans in rural villages in Eastern Indonesia, will present pieces alongside established furniture brands.

Balagi, an Indonesian furniture brand, will bring its handwoven rattan lifestyle pieces to Jia Curated 2025. The event also features Tokyo-based For The Metal People, showcasing a collection of sleek cutlery, knives, pots, and pans.

A Unique Venue and a Unifying Principle

The venue for Jia Curated is an abandoned nine-hectare former theme park in Bali. The unifying principle of Jia Curated is an Indonesian term called Gotong Royong, which means 'communal effort'. This spirit of collaboration and shared responsibility is reflected in the festival's focus on fostering connections and conversations across cultures and disciplines.

Jia Curated 2025 is set to be an exciting and immersive event, showcasing the best of Southeast Asian design, craft, and architecture. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to experience the region's rich cultural heritage and innovative spirit.
