Secured Future for Emmaus Church in Harlaching: Community's Anticipated Return

The Emmaus Church in Harlaching, Munich, is currently undergoing a significant renovation project, with a focus on the church's roof. The total cost of the renovation is estimated to be around 2 million euros.

The renovation involves stabilising the roof with additional beams and reinforcing it with new insulation. To support this project, interested parties can purchase photovoltaic modules. A new covering with integrated photovoltaics will be placed on the renovated roof, making it more energy-efficient.

The church has already secured a grant of 700,000 euros from the regional church and has 800,000 euros in its own funds for the renovation. The remaining 500,000 euros will be raised through donations, sponsorships, and creative actions, such as benefit concerts by the Munich Concert Choir and a fair in the Emmaus community in October.

Unfortunately, no definitive timeline for the completion of the roof renovation or the congregation's return to the church has been provided. Pastor Wolfram Nugel hopes that the congregation can move back into the church for Easter or by May, but this remains uncertain.

It's worth noting that the roof of the Emmaus Church is similar in materials and structure to the one that collapsed in Hesse. The church, built in the 1960s, has been temporarily moved to the community hall due to the roof collapse in autumn 2023.

Despite the challenges, Pastor Nugel remains optimistic about the future of the Emmaus Church. He stated that the church will exist for at least the next 30 to 50 years. The community is actively working towards ensuring the church's continued presence in Harlaching.

For the latest updates on the Emmaus Church roof renovation and the congregation's return, it's recommended to check the church's official website or local news sources. Alternatively, you can contact the church office in Munich for more information.

Despite the focus of the renovation on the church's roof, additional improvements are planned for the overall lifestyle and home-and-garden areas within the Emmaus community. With the installation of a new covering with integrated photovoltaics, the renovated church will boast an energy-efficient home-and-garden setup. By supporting the photovoltaic modules for the project, interested parties demonstrate a commitment to enhancing not only the church's lifestyle but also their own combined home-and-garden endeavors.
