Heimfelder Vogelsschießen Returns with a Grand Celebration

After a several-year hiatus due to renovations, the Heimfelder Vogelsschießen, a traditional shooting festival in the Heimfeld district, made a triumphant return this August. The ceremony took place in front of the Friedrich-Ebert-Hall, and was marked by a lively procession, live music, food and drink, family activities, and, of course, the much-anticipated bird shooting competition.

A Weekend of Festivities

The event kicked off on Saturday, August 22, with a children's festival in the festival tent at 3:30 PM. Each child attending, from the age of 3 to 12, received a prize. The festivities continued into the evening with the proclamation of the new vice-kings at 8 PM, followed by the "Summer Beats Party" featuring DJ Crazy Paddy. Tickets for the event cost ten euros, including three euros for refreshments.

On Sunday, August 23, the shooting of the young shooters, the shooting on the big bird, and the targets began at 8 AM. The day was filled with excitement as participants vied for the title of "Schützenkönig" (shooting king) of the event.

In the afternoon, a reception of honorary guests and a festival dinner took place in the festival tent, and at 8 PM, the new shooting kings were proclaimed in front of the shooting stand.

Community Spirit and Tradition

The ceremony was attended by approximately 250 participants, including delegations from Marmstorf, Eißendorf, Buxtehude, Moorburg, Rönneburg, Neugraben-Scheideholz, the Volunteer Fire Department Eißendorf, and the Harburger Schützenilde. The retreat was played jointly by the Holsteiner Hornmusik and the Spielmannszug of SV Eißendorf, under the command of Sebastian Schröder.

After the ceremony, the procession of shooters and musicians continued towards the festival site, where the festival ball took place in the festival tent and admission was free.

The Heimfelder Vogelsschießen is a cherished tradition in the Heimfeld district, bringing together the community for a weekend of fun, food, and friendly competition. For those interested in attending future events, it is best to check local community boards, the official Heimfeld district website, or contact the organizing shooting clubs directly, as schedules can change annually.

For those who appreciate outdoor-living and home-and-garden activities, the weekend following the Heimfelder Vogelsschießen offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the Other lifestyle, as local gardening and handicraft workshops are often held during the festival's downtime. Additionally, as the festivities wind down, attendees are welcome to explore the nearby park, providing a scenic and peaceful way to transition into the next week, combining elements of both the shooting event and a home-garden lifestyle.
