This role, part of a movement to make it easier for people to walk and cycle, is ideal for those with experience in leading physical activity or behaviour change projects within schools, workplaces, or communities.
Key Responsibilities
As a Project Officer, you will be responsible for leading behaviour change initiatives in active travel across various community settings. The role is a full-time position (around 37.5 hours per week) based mainly in Birmingham with some flexibility for remote work when not delivering activities. On-site presence is required, with travel across the West Midlands and Staffordshire.
The salary for this role is approximately £28,831 per annum (pro rata for part-time). The ability to engage effectively with diverse groups and deliver both practical and educational activities is essential. Good organisational and communication skills are also required to manage outreach and event delivery.
Additional Requirements
While not explicitly stated, experience or a strong interest in active travel, community engagement, or behaviour change is likely beneficial. Skills in project coordination and volunteer management are also expected. A proactive approach to promoting health, wellbeing, and sustainable transport is also desirable.
Application Process
To apply for this role, candidates should complete the online application form. The closing date for applications is 23:59, 25 August 2025. Interviews will take place at the Birmingham Hub on the 4th or 5th of September 2025. If unable to attend in-person, alternative arrangements can be made.
Benefits
The organization offers 28 days leave per annum plus bank holidays for full-time working. They are a member of the Green Commute Initiative and Cycle Scheme, offering cycle to work schemes. The organization has a long-term commitment to being a charity for everyone, reducing inequality, valuing diversity, enabling inclusion, and ensuring all people are treated with dignity and respect.
They also offer enhanced maternity and paternity pay and a Group Personal Pension scheme with a 6% or 7% of basic salary contribution being matched. The organization includes everyone as central to who they are and what they want to achieve.
This role emphasizes hands-on community involvement and supporting sustainable travel policies to create more liveable spaces in the West Midlands and Staffordshire through active travel initiatives. If you are passionate about making a difference and have the necessary skills, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
- The Project Officer role extends beyond active travel initiatives, requiring expertise in promoting home-and-garden lifestyle with outdoor-living, as these activities could be integrated into community events to encourage healthier living and sustainable transport.
- In aligning with the organization's commitment to reducing inequality, promoting diversity, and fostering an inclusive environment, the Project Officer might consider integrating lifestyle changes that address home-and-garden improvements, such as growing one's own food, to empower communities and advocate for a broader perspective on sustainable living.
