Riga Airport's exceptional communication skills net them two gold awards at the International Public Relations Association's prestigious Golden World Awards.
RIX Riga Airport, the primary gateway to Latvia, has made a significant mark in the aviation industry with its award-winning communication campaigns for its rebranding and 50th anniversary celebration. The airport received two gold awards at the IPRA (International Public Relations Association) Golden World Awards 2025, a testament to its strategic success and creative execution.
The rebranding campaign, aimed at supporting RIX Riga Airport's long-term strategic goal of becoming the future travel hub of Northern Europe, was developed in cooperation with Latvia's largest public relations agency, "Komunikācijas aģentūra." The campaign was planned and executed with transparency to avoid negative reactions and gain public trust in the new brand.
Employees were engaged and turned into active brand ambassadors during the rebranding process. One of the key initiatives was an exhibition titled "Riga Airport: A Personal View," created by airport staff, which showcased the airport's history and future vision.
The 50th anniversary campaign, which followed the rebranding, celebrated achievements, experiences, and the people behind them at Riga Airport. It included youth-focused activities and innovation showcases highlighting Latvian export-driven companies. A silent disco birthday party was held in the centre of Riga by RIX Riga Airport, adding a fun and unique twist to the celebrations.
Industry professionals were engaged early through a dedicated preview event during the rebranding campaign. Laila Odiņa, Chairwoman of the Board of RIX Riga Airport, emphasized that reputation is vital for the airport, as it is a country's calling card. Signe Reinholde-Āboliņa, Chairwoman of the Board of "Komunikācijas aģentūra," notes that winning the IPRA awards is an honor and proof of world-class strategic communication in Latvia.
The communication efforts of RIX Riga Airport, including these events, are being recognized on a global stage through the IPRA awards. The awards ceremony will take place in October 2025 in Ghana. The awards serve as a testament to RIX Riga Airport's commitment to innovative and effective communication strategies, setting a high standard for other airports to follow.
