Renovated Historic City Wall in Worms Brings New Luster

The city of Worms, Germany, has announced plans for the restoration of two of its most iconic structures – the Citizen's Tower and the Gate Tower. According to city officials, construction work is expected to begin by mid-next year.

The restoration work forms part of a gradual renewal of the entire old defensive installation in Worms. A tender for the restoration of the Gate Tower is nearing completion, and a scaffold will be erected on the Citizen's Tower in the coming weeks for a condition survey.

However, no specific company has been named yet for the restoration work, as the awarding process for the natural stone restoration contract is still ongoing. The construction is planned to start in October 2025.

Approximately 60% of the natural stone facade of the Gate Tower requires renovation. The restoration work aims to secure these structures and preserve the historic cityscape of Worms.

While no exact start date for the restoration work on the Gate Tower has been announced, it is scheduled to begin in October. Further details about the tender process and the scheduled start date are yet to be disclosed.

The restoration work on the Gate Tower and the Citizen's Tower is a significant step towards maintaining the historical charm and integrity of the city. Once completed, these structures will stand as a testament to Worms' rich history and cultural heritage.
