Regensburg County Administration Unveils New Photovoltaic Carport System
Regensburg County Administration has inaugurated a new photovoltaic carport system, a green initiative that will supply its administrative building with clean and cost-effective electricity. The system, commissioned by Kommunale Energie Regensburger Land (KERL) eG, is the second major project of the cooperative in 2025.
The new system, with a capacity of 135 kWp, was installed on the parking lot of the county administration, demonstrating KERL's commitment to utilizing already sealed areas for renewable energy projects. This approach spares the landscape and nature, as highlighted by the cooperative.
The opening ceremony was attended by several local mayors, the economic advisor of the county, and other officials. County Councilor Tanja Schweiger praised the project, stating that it showcases how the public sector can contribute to climate protection while saving costs. The system is designed to meet the actual electricity needs of the county administration, avoiding overproduction and relieving networks, with a capacity of 156 kWp.
KERL, a cooperative founded by all municipalities of the county and the city of Regensburg, aims to strengthen energy sovereignty in the region. The cooperative has a subsidiary, KERL Project GmbH, which is responsible for planning, realization, and operation of projects such as photovoltaic or wind power plants. The project at Regensburg County Administration is the second major initiative implemented by KERL in 2025, following the photovoltaic system on the roof of Regenstauf Realschule.
The photovoltaic carport system at Regensburg County Administration, commissioned by KERL, is a testament to the cooperative's commitment to renewable energy and sustainable practices. With a capacity of 135 kWp and designed to meet the actual electricity needs of the county administration, the system is expected to contribute significantly to climate protection and cost savings.
