Burg Stargard Community Center Project Nears Completion
The historic Burg Stargard Community Center project, located at Market Square 7, is progressing steadily towards its completion. The tender for the construction works, dated August 16, 2025, indicates an estimated completion and opening date of September 12, 2025 [1].
The restoration of the old building is being carried out in stages. The ceiling beams above the ground floor are expected to be restored by the end of August, and the upper floor's historic timber-framed walls will follow after that. The ground floor, consisting partly of timber-framed and partly of masonry walls, is currently under repair.
Meanwhile, the new building's foundation, masonry, and reinforced concrete work have already been completed. The interior of the new building features a staircase connecting the floors, and there will be a future glazed connection to the old building at Market Street 7. Work on the third building body, which will house the future sanitary facilities, is scheduled to begin at the end of August.
The project, which includes the renovation of the heritage-listed building at Market Square 7 and the construction of a new building at Market Square 5, is estimated to cost approximately 6 million euros. Funding for the project comes from federal, state, and municipal urban development funds, with 4.7 million euros allocated.
Accessibility and fire safety will be important considerations in the construction project. The project will also feature a toilet.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the project took place in November 2024, and a topping-out ceremony is tentatively scheduled for mid-September 2025. However, delays in the construction schedule cannot be completely ruled out.
Once completed, the community center will serve as a meeting place for clubs and other organizations in Burg Stargard. The move and commissioning will follow after the construction work is completed, with the goal of starting operations in the first quarter of 2027.
