In the heart of urban landscapes, Santander Cycles is making a significant impact, promoting cycling as a means to reduce pollution and encourage a healthier lifestyle. Since its inception in 2015, the public cycle hire system has travelled an impressive 300 million kilometres, cutting down CO2 emissions by a substantial 20,000 tonnes.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Santander Cycles extended a helping hand to healthcare workers, offering 100,000 codes for free cycle hires. This initiative not only supported those on the frontlines but also contributed to the reduction of carbon emissions.

The success of Santander Cycles in London is mirrored in Santander Brasil, where the bank operates under the slogan "The bank of Brazilian cycling". Santander Brasil's commitment to cycling is evident in their sponsorship of Brasil Ride, the largest mountain bike event in the world.

Santander UK, too, has a strong focus on cycling. They have renewed their sponsorship agreement with Transport for London (TfL) to promote sustainable transport and healthy living. In London alone, there are over 14,000 cycles, and the system has served over 100 million riders. Santander Cycles is operational in London, Milton Keynes, Swansea, and Brunel University London campus.

Over the next three years, Santander Cycles plans to supply electric bicycles to the cities of London, Manchester, and Liverpool in the United Kingdom. This move is in line with the emphasis on climate change mitigation efforts and the importance of reducing carbon emissions.

Santander Brasil is also committed to creating value for its shareholders. In addition to their cycling initiatives, they have a 17th Euros from your salary programme for diversity and inclusion, and a 16th Euros from your salary contest to support those most in need.

On 30 May 2020, Santander Cycles set an all-time record with more than 70,000 users in one day. This surge in usage was likely due to the increased focus on sustainable transport and healthy living, as well as the need for alternative modes of travel during the pandemic.

Between March 2020 and March 2021, new user registries rose 193%, and yearly subscriptions 22%. These figures indicate a growing interest in and reliance on Santander Cycles as a viable, eco-friendly transport option.

As we move forward, it is clear that Santander's cycling initiatives will continue to play a crucial role in encouraging sustainable transport, reducing pollution, and supporting communities.
