**Affordable Housing Expansion in Manchester: Project 500 Phase 2 Underway**

Manchester, July 2025 - The second phase of Manchester City Council's Project 500 is progressing, with a focus on delivering additional affordable housing across the city. The initiative, launched in 2022, aims to address the housing needs of those struggling with poverty and living standards in Manchester.

The project, led by Manchester City Council in partnership with housing developers like The Guinness Partnership, is currently finalizing partner arrangements for around 11 sites. These arrangements will provide approximately 130 more affordable homes, adding to the 357 homes already completed in the first phase.

Councillor White, speaking about the first phase, stated that 357 social rent and affordable homes have been successfully delivered across 22 different sites. The first homes under Project 500 have recently been completed by The Guinness Partnership, with 20 homes delivered and an ongoing plan to develop 68 highly energy-efficient affordable homes in coordination with Manchester City Council.

One such development, off Moston Lane, is being delivered by One Manchester, providing 18 one-bed cottage flats, 7 two-bed houses, and 4 four-bedroom houses. Another development, in Harpurhey, is being led by Mosscare St Vincentas (MSV), providing 46 affordable homes.

Charlie Norman, group chief executive of MSV, has expressed enthusiasm for the Project 500 scheme, stating that all 70 homes at their Cheetham Hill scheme will be social rent. Norman has also expressed excitement about seeing the new home occupants move in.

The Project 500 scheme is not related to the Castlefield Viaduct sky park project, which is a separate initiative aimed at expanding green public spaces.

As the second phase of Project 500 moves forward, the city of Manchester continues to address its housing needs, providing affordable homes for single people and families in need of a home in the city. The next phase of the Project 500 scheme is underway to exceed the 500-home target.

In the second phase of Project 500, the city of Manchester is working with housing developers to deliver 130 more affordable homes, enhancing living standards and contributing to the home-and-garden sector. The approach aligns with the project's initial objective of addressing housing needs, catering to both single individuals and families across the city.
