Pro-Ject's top-notch EVO turntable has returned in a sleek black version, boasting a more budget-friendly price tag.
The highly-regarded Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO turntable is now available in a stylish Satin Black finish, offering a well-rounded vinyl experience for new buyers and audiophiles alike.
Priced at £449, the Debut Carbon EVO features a three-speed precision belt drive with electronic speed control, allowing for quick switching between 33 ⅓, 45, and 78 RPM via a rocker switch. The turntable boasts a heavy-duty motor suspension, a 1.7 kg steel platter with TPE rubber damping, and an 8.6-inch one-piece carbon fibre tonearm for improved rigidity and tracking.
The Debut Carbon EVO comes with an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge that's pre-adjusted by Pro-Ject, ensuring optimal performance right out of the box. Other notable features include damped, adjustable heavy metal feet for stability on various surfaces, gold-plated RCA outputs, and a semi-balanced low-capacitance RCA cable for quality connectivity.
Handmade in Europe, the Debut Carbon EVO boasts a heavy MDF chassis designed for resonance control and stability. The turntable is available in modern satin black finish with a dust cover included.
In comparison, the Pro-Ject EVO 2 offers a slightly more advanced platter size and mounting, better wow & flutter specs, and a slightly different cartridge choice (OM5e). However, it lacks 78 RPM speed support and is generally at a higher price point, reflecting its evolution beyond the Debut model.
The Debut Carbon EVO offers excellent value with its mature design, versatile speed control, and premium Ortofon 2M Red cartridge, making it an ideal choice for new buyers looking for a well-rounded, detailed vinyl experience under £500. Meanwhile, the EVO 2 targets audiophiles seeking incremental performance improvements with a different cartridge and larger platter but at a higher cost.
With the recent relaunch, the retail price of the Debut Carbon EVO has been reduced by £50, making it an even more attractive option for entry-level enthusiasts. Some 2024 models of the turntable are still available in UK retail, often with impressive discounts.
