Bustling Jubilee and Citizens' Extravaganza in Greifswald for MV Day – Celebration of Tradition, Innovation, and Diversity
Preparations underway for 15th MV Day - State Midsummer Celebration in Greifswald - Prepared for the 15th MV-Day - the Midsummer Festival in Greifswald commences
Embrace the midst of summer as Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania unfolds an extensive festivity. From June 20 to 22, the fascinating city of Greifswald welcomes the 15th MV Day, mirroring last year's Day of German Unity with Minister President Manuela Schwesig expecting a fervent atmosphere buzzing with discussions, entertainment, and camaraderie.
Schwesig, the SPD politician, remarked in Schwerin during the program unveiling, "It's crucial for people to gather. Those who take the stage are rightfully proud of their accomplishments." The MV Day offers not just conversations but also an opportunity to express appreciation for those who make a difference through grassroots movements, firefighters, sports teams, artistic groups, cultural initiatives, or simply neighbors. Schwesig accentuated the significance of volunteer efforts as the foundation of coexistence.
Griffewald's city center will serve as the stage for a thrilling program. Over 90 exhibitors, including state administration, parliament, craft guilds, counties, cities, universities, research institutions, emergency services, associations, federations, and local authorities, will congregate in a dozen closely situated thematic zones. Simultaneously, the state sports games of the state sports association will unfold in Greifswald.
The state chancellery anticipates the MV Day expenses to reach 490,000 euros, with the host city contributing 15,000 euros. The organizers project an attendance of between 40,000 and 50,000 visitors, including the opening event on the evening of June 20, stated Peter Kranz, director of state marketing.
The MV Day motto: "Tradition – Innovation – Diversity"
Following the Caspar David Friedrich Year 2024, Greifswald looks forward to another cultural and social triumph in quick succession. "We can celebrate. We demonstrated it clearly last year," said Mayor Stefan Fassbinder (Greens).
Expectant of another successful event, Fassbinder is optimistic that the Hanseatic city, which hosted the MV Day in 2003, will again provide an outstanding experience, embodiment of pride and variety. The city is particularly excited to celebrate the 775th anniversary of its foundation in 2025 and thirty-five years of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The MV Day coincides with the Bach Week and the Fête de la Musique.
The police will ensure security during the MV Day, assured the inspector of the state police, Nils Hoffmann-Ritterbusch. The number of deployed officers promises to be in the "three-digit range." The police chief refused to disclose further details but emphasized that they will be well-present and easily identifiable. However, Hoffmann-Ritterbusch conceded that the security requirements have significantly increased in recent years due to experiences with knife and vehicle attacks.
