Portuguese city Caldas da Rainha honors ceramic artistry in June (marking the 3rd event)
Caldas da Rainha's Ceramic Market Show Aims for UNESCO Crafts Denomination Enhancement
In a recent press release, the Municipal Chamber announced that the upcoming Ceramic Market Show is intended to fortify Caldas da Rainha's status as a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts and Popular Arts. The event will unfold from June 20 to 22.
This three-day celebration promises a vibrant portrayal of Portuguese ceramics, with artisans, artists, and 'designers' from across the nation converging to share their skill and artistic flair. The atmosphere will be conducive to interaction and experimentation.
Coordinators have planned a comprehensive program, comprising a Parque D. Carlos I exhibition and sale of distinctive ceramic works, concurrent with demonstrations of age-old and cutting-edge techniques. Creative experiences and 'live creations', which underscore the expertise of master ceramists, have also been arranged as part of the program.
This year's Ceramic Market Show will component a cultural mediation program integrating artists, visitors, and residents. Highlighting this initiative is a ceramics laboratory by CENCAL - Center for Professional Training in the Ceramic Industry, intended to ignite interest in the local ceramic heritage among the younger generations.
The event will be marked by ceramists from municipalities associated with the Portuguese Association of Ceramic Cities and Villages (AptCVC), as well as the collective exhibition 'Rainha Mestra', a collaborative installation presenting tiles created by the participating artists. This collection pays homage to D. Leonor, the founder of Caldas da Rainha, on the occasion of her 500th anniversary.
The Ceramic Market Show is also associated with 'CCC Outside the Doors', a program initiated by the Cultural and Congress Center of Caldas da Rainha, featuring concerts, street entertainment, puppet theater, and discussions about ceramics.
Artists interested may register until the end of May, with free admission for attendees. The event is spearheaded by the municipality of Caldas da Rainha and affiliated with the 'UNESCO Creative Cities Center Portugal' project, co-financed by PT2030/Centro2030, collaborating with the municipalities of Castelo Branco, Covilhã, Idanha-a-Nova, Leiria, and Óbidos.
