Patagonia discretely overhauls a revered fleece design for the year 2025
Patagonia Unveils Sustainable Update to Classic Retro-X Fleece Jacket
Patagonia, the renowned outdoor clothing brand, has introduced an updated version of its Classic Retro-X Fleece Jacket. The new design, available now, brings subtle refinements to the jacket's classic look while enhancing its usability and comfort, all while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability.
The fit of the updated Retro-X is more relaxed overall, making it easier to layer for all-season wear. The inner liner has been revised to be more layering-friendly, improving adaptability across different weather and activity conditions. The pocket shape has been updated to a design reminiscent of early 2000s Patagonia styles, and the inside of the collar now has a fuzzy lining for added comfort and warmth.
Patagonia continues its commitment to sustainability through the use of recycled fleece material in the updated Retro-X. The Repreve recycled polyester used in the jacket is certified by OceanCycle, ensuring that the materials are sourced from coastal communities at risk of plastic pollution. The lining of the updated Retro-X is made from 100% recycled polyester, and the jacket is made entirely from Repreve recycled polyester.
The updated Retro-X maintains its signature windproof membrane and quarter-inch fleece pile. The lining of the updated Retro-X has been upgraded with a PFAS-free DWR finish, further reducing the environmental impact of the jacket. The chest pocket has been reshaped to resemble early 2000s Retro Cardigans, adding a touch of nostalgia to the updated design.
Patagonia's Ironclad Guarantee continues to support product longevity and sustainability. The guarantee includes repair resources and trade-in options for store credit, encouraging reuse and reducing waste. This update could mark the beginning of a new chapter for Patagonia's heritage range.
The Classic Retro-X Fleece Jacket is available now at Patagonia for £186.90/ AU$384.14. The collar lining of the updated Retro-X is fuzzier for a softer feel. The jacket is already live on Patagonia's site under the same style number (23057). This overhaul of the 2025 version of Patagonia's Classic Retro-X fleece represents a step forward in sustainable fashion and a testament to Patagonia's enduring commitment to environmental responsibility.
