Own Ella Fitzgerald's Impromptu Stage: Luxury Apartment Up for Sale
A luxurious apartment in the Hotel Le Provencal, once graced by Ella Fitzgerald's impromptu performance, is now up for sale. This three-bedroom suite, priced at £6.75 million, is part of a £300 million residential complex that has risen from the hotel's abandoned past.
The original Hotel Le Provencal, built in 1926-1927 for American tycoon Frank Jay Gould, was a Cote d'Azur hotspot in its heyday. It attracted celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Jackie Kennedy, and Louis Armstrong. Ella Fitzgerald herself performed from its balcony in 1963.
The hotel's glamour was inspired by the Roaring Twenties and the post-war zenith of the Cote d'Azur. It was built by Marcel Pagnol in the 1920s and later abandoned for nearly five decades. In 2014, British entrepreneur John Caudwell bought the derelict property and spent a decade restoring it into a 'super prime residential complex'. The complex now includes 41 penthouses, apartments, and villas, with around 40% sold so far.
The Ella Fitzgerald suite, priced at £6.75 million, is a tribute to the hotel's past glamour. It offers a chance to own a piece of history in a complex that has risen from the ashes of its abandoned past.
