Ongoing efforts to aid solitary elderly citizens in Almaty persist
In the heart of Almaty, Kazakhstan, a unique support campaign for lonely pensioners is underway, aiming to bring joy and essential supplies to over 700 elderly individuals this New Year.
The campaign, a collaborative effort of almost all major city-based volunteer organisations, has garnered significant attention, with notable figures such as Igor Tarakov, Eskender Togyspaev, and Almaty TV channel, as well as the People's Artist of Kazakhstan, Aigul Nurmagambetova, lending their support.
The food packages distributed as part of this initiative contain essential food items and traditional New Year treats, including sweets, juices, and mandarins. Lazzat Ibragimova, director of the city branch of the volunteer organisation "Red Crescent," highlighted that this is the first time they are conducting a campaign with other volunteer organisations, with the support of Almaty city.
Bagdat Anarbayeva, chairperson of the city branch of "League of Volunteers of Kazakhstan," expressed their ambition to reach 700 lonely grandparents in Almaty, with 150 packages ready for immediate delivery. The campaign has also gained the support of Dilmira Blats, leader of the Lider.kz volunteer movement, who has called upon the people of Almaty, particularly the youth, to join and support the campaign.
Dilmira Blats also expressed a desire to welcome new volunteers, especially healthy young men and women, to contribute to this heartwarming initiative. The volunteers involved in the campaign believe that nothing should dampen the New Year spirit in the hearts of Kazakhstanis, despite the ongoing pandemic.
Aigul Nurmagambetova, a renowned Kazakh singer, has also participated as a volunteer in the campaign, emphasising the significance of the campaign as a means of supporting the elderly generation before the New Year.
