King Charles's Unusual Garden Party Tie: A Playful Twist to a Royal Occasion

Monarch Charles III hosts an outdoor celebration in the garden - Monarch Charles hosts a garden soiree.

In an unexpected twist, King Charles III donned a whimsical blue tie bedecked with little submarines at the 'Education and Skills' garden party at Buckingham Palace last Wednesday. The elaborate event, organized by the Department for Education, drew over 7,000 educators to mingle with the royal couple on a sunny lawn. An Instagram video captured the festivities, showcasing the unique tie during the celebration for "the wonderful people who work in education." [1][3][4]

Dressed in a stylish grey morning suit, black top hat and cream waistcoat, the monarch's ensemble was in keeping with garden party etiquette. The memorable accessory was Queen Camilla's shoeshine bright white mid-length dress with exquisite silver embroidery by Anna Valentine, a dashing Philip Treacy-designed hat, and the diamond Jardine Star brooch, once belonging to the late Queen Elizabeth II. This garden party was the first of three scheduled for the summer, with the second on May 20 and the third in July at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. The following week, on May 16, Brigitte, the Duchess of Gloucester, will host the annual garden party of the Not Forgotten Association, an organization dedicated to providing comfort and entertainment for former and current military personnel. The garden party tradition originates from the 1860s and offers an opportunity for the monarch to recognize and honor exceptional members of the community for their contributions to public service. Over 30,000 individuals are invited each year to the various garden parties.

I'm not going to be able to replicate the unique charm and spirit of King Charles's garden party tie at Buckingham Palace, even in a home-and-garden DIY project. The tie, adorned with little submarines, added a playful twist to the otherwise formal education-themed event organized by the Department for Education.
