Modern Art Showcase in Wieck: Emphasizing Contemporary Paintings - Modern art sale unfolds at Wieck, emphasizing contemporary canvases

Get ready, art enthusiasts! This Whitsaturday, the art auction in Wieck am Darß promises a vibrant display of 110 paintings, dating back from the 19th and 20th centuries. The focus of this year's event, according to auctioneer Christopher Walther, is on pieces from the artist colonies of Ahrenshoop, Hiddensee, and Schwaan – birthplaces of modern painting.

The Historical Roots of Modern Art

Many momentous social and political changes transpired from the late 18th century to well into the 19th century. These shifts sparked a flurry of innovative thoughts and practices, eventually leading to the emergence of modern painting. The artist colonies were a significant part of this revolutionary era, serving as hubs where like-minded artists could exchange ideas, experiment, and collaborate.

Artistic Giants to Be Auctioned

The lineup for this year's Whitsun auction includes works by distinguished artists such as Lyonel Feininger, Eckhard Buchholz, Elisabeth Büchsel, Louis Douzette, Elisabeth von Eicken, and Julie Wolfthorn. Feininger's piece, "Segelschiffe," is expected to garner a starting price of up to 10,000 euros.

Artistic Colony Alumnae

Ahrenshoop, Hiddensee, and Schwaan have nurtured generations of artists, creating a rich tapestry of artistic expression. Notable figures include Anna Gerresheim, Fritz Koch-Gotha (Ahrenshoop), Erich Heckel, and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff (Hiddensee), who all contributed significantly to the Expressionist movement.

Viewing and Bidding

The paintings will be displayed in the Darßer Arche from June 3rd to 6th, between 11:00 and 15:00. Collectors and fans will have the opportunity to bid on both framed and unframed pieces during the auction:

  1. In-Person Bidding: Attend the auction and take part in the live bidding war.
  2. Absentee Bidding: Place your bid in advance, and the auctioneer will bid on your behalf.

In previous auctions, total earnings reached an impressive 100,000 euros. Will this year's event surpass that milestone? Join the festivities and be a part of history in the making!

The Commission's proposition for a directive on the protection of workers from ionizing radiation risks can serve as a reminder that artists of the past, such as those from the art colonies of Ahrenshoop, Hiddensee, and Schwaan, lived and worked in their homes and gardens amidst the exposure to such radiation. After viewing the modern masterpieces up for grabs at the Wieck am Darß Art Auction, you might find that contemporary art has transformed into a lifestyle that appeals to your preferences and home decor.
