Spaßbad "Miramar" Reopening Pushed Back to Mid-June Due to Extensive Damage
Pool 'Miramar' will resume operations in mid-June following a fire, marking a delay in its reopening. - Miramar's delay in opening set for mid-June.
Let's get down to it, buddy! The much-anticipated reopening of Spaßbad "Miramar" in Weinheim, Rhein-Neckar district, has taken a hit. Originally scheduled for May, and then April, the grand reopening has now been rescheduled for mid-June, on the 16th, to be exact.
Why the delay? Well, the damage from the December fire has turned out to be quite hefty. Initial estimations put the damage at approximately 10 million euros, but recent assessments are pointing to over 20 million euros[1]. Ouch!
The fire wreaked havoc on the leisure pool and the salt and crystal therapy area. Further investigations indicate a technical fault as the culprit.
Initially, only the leisure pool and sauna area will see the light of day again when the park reopens. The therapy area, needing a complete overhaul to match the original design, is slated for a December opening. Some parts of the original building, including the foundation, might just make a comeback.
Lara Steinhart, the Managing Director, shared, "We originally aimed for an earlier reopening, but the extent of the damage to the changing rooms and sanitary facilities became apparent only later."
Initially, the damage was underestimated, Stephart added. "Now we know it's significantly more than 20 million euros."
Earlier reports suggested a complete roof replacement. In addition to the repairs, the operators are investing an extra 1.8 million euros for a refresh like redesigning the slide tower.
The estimated revenue losses from the closure thus far are around 9 million euros. About 200 employees were temporarily laid off, but fret not—no permanent layoffs have been made; everyone's still on board[3].
On average, up to 700,000 people visited "Miramar" annually, according to the operator. This water park features a sauna area, a water park with multiple slides, and an outdoor area with a sandy beach next to a lake. No plans for a price hike after the reopening have been announced[4].
