Stepping Down: Island Boss Quits, New Leadership Awaited

Hey there!

Remember Countess Bettina Bernadotte? Yep, the one who's been running Mainau Island on beautiful Lake Constance? Well, she's hanging up her management hat. The Bernadotte family scion decided it's high time for a mix of internal and external expertise to steer the ship. Her brother, Count Björn Bernadotte, stays put in his post.

The 50-year-old shared, "I'll keep my Mainau ties intact through involvement on the foundation's board." She's been at the helm since 2007, and it's this family—descendants of the Swedish royal house—that's sculpted the isle for five glorious generations.

Mainau, famously known as the "Flower Island," boasts more than a million visitors yearly. It promises stunning park and garden landscapes, a baroque castle, a palm house, and a butterfly house over its 45 hectares.

With about 150 full-time employees and 30 apprentices year-round, plus an additional 200 seasonal workers, the Mainau GmbH keeps quite a team going. The Lennart Bernadotte Foundation is the sole owner, by the way. The hunt for the new external manager is on—a spokesperson confirmed.

As for who'll take the reins, details are scant. To stay in the loop, check the official Mainau Island website or your favorite news sources for the latest.
