Get ready for a groovy good time at the picturesque coastal village of Freest, where the annual community festival and fish market is set to rock on Saturday, May 3rd! Located smack dab at the mouth of the Peene, Freest is Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's biggest fishing harbor, and this year, it's shining the spotlight on a delicacy with a dash of blue-green glamour - the unique, in-season hornfish, nicknamed the "Baltic Sea's Spring Fishing Prize!"

According to Fanny Holzhueter, managing director of the tourism association of Vorpommern, these fish are the real deal - their scales boast a trendy, greenish sheen that's bound to catch your eye. And if you're keen to get your hooks into some freshly caught, locally sourced hornfish, Freest is the place to be!

"Fresher doesn't get fresher," asserts Holzhueter. "Visitors can witness fishing up close and score fish specialties straight from the producer, an unusual experience in the region!"

More than 20 local vendors, organizations, and exhibitors will be laying down their wares throughout the harbor, offering an eclectic mix of fresh fish, nautical trinkets, home accessories, local art, handmade crafts, scrumptious regional food items like potatoes, eggs, honey, and sausages, and all the usual festival fare.
