Greening the Globe, One Destination at a Time

Korean Air, the global champion of green skies, has recently embarked on a series of noble initiatives in Nepal and Mongolia, reinforcing its reputation for standing in solidarity with the world's communities.

These groundbreaking feats of humanitarianship and environmental stewardship come hot on the heels of Korean Air being crowned AirlineRatings.com's World's Best Airline for 2025. This recognition was swiftly followed by a joint beach cleanup with Delta Air Lines in California, a testimony to the enormity of their shared commitment.

Journeying to the heart of Nepal, a band of 22 intrepid Korean Air employees, along with their families, established camp in Chitwan - a UNESCO World Heritage site, roughly 150 kilometers southwest of Kathmandu. Despite its distinguished status, the region faces formidable challenges, including the scarcity of essential amenities like clean water, healthcare, and education infrastructure.

Amid this scenic backdrop, they:

  • Roared to life, installing modern drainage systems that guaranteed sustainable access to clean and safe drinking water;
  • Raised the stakes, repairing and restoring facilities such as the playground;
  • Organized a community celebration, complete with school supplies distribution, mouthwatering meals, and playtime activities for the children;
  • Deployed emergency medical kits, packed with fever reducers, nutritional supplements, wound treatments, and deworming medications to tackle the health hurdles openly prevalent in the blistering climate.

In Mongolia, Korean Air's green crusade commenced at its "Korean Air Forest" in Baganuur, Ulaanbaatar. A colossal collaboration between Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, involving over 260 employees, saw the planting of saplings, maintenance of the forest, and a symbolic "flight swap" to boost mutual understanding within the merged airlines.

The adventure began under the shadow of two freshly planted pine trees, symbolizing the unified future of the combined airlines. Volunteers merrily embraced their task, planting saplings and keeping the forest, first established in 2004, in tip-top shape. The forest, now spanning 44 hectares and home to over 125,000 trees across 12 species, serves double duty in fostering local ecological balance and reducing dust pollution from nearby coal mines.

In anticipation of Children's Day on June 1, the airline unveiled a new playground within the forest. Finishing touches were made to its safety features, and a fresh coat of paint graced its wooden structures. Staff members stretched their benevolence, visiting Gun-galutai and Bolovsrol National Schools, where they conducted lessons in Korean, English, and aviation engineering. That's right; Korean Air has been investing in the education sector since 2013, providing computer classrooms and aviation engineering lessons for the plates of tomorrow.

Amid its Asian initiatives, Korean Air collaborated with Delta Air Lines for a joint beach cleanup in the United States in April. The duo beach-buffed their way near the Santa Monica Pier for the second year running, all in the name of preserving Southern California's pristine coastline.

So, there you have it! Korean Air, the airline equivalent of Mother Earth, setting the stage for future generations to soar gleefully and sustainably. A Green-Thumbed Titan, if you will. 🌳💚🚀
