State Zoo Day Returns to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Get ready for a fun-filled day at the zoo as the annual State Zoo Day returns to various towns across Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on Friday. This year, the event will feature sixteen participating facilities, including Rostock, Schwerin, Waren, Güstrow, and Stralsund.

In Waren, the Müritzeum invites you to a discovery tour on the roof, offering a unique perspective of the wildlife. At the Rostock Zoo, visitors can explore an information mobile with surprise boxes on sustainability. The animal park in Wismar houses a farm with domestic animals, including cattle, goats, sheep, donkeys, and ponies, allowing families to interact with and feed the animals.

Children up to 14 years old will have free entry on the State Zoo Day, making it an ideal opportunity for families to enjoy a day out. In Schwerin and Güstrow, children can catch small animals from ponds with nets and observe them under a microscope in research camps.

The German Oceanographic Museum in Stralsund is organizing family rallies and offering visits to the penguins in the Ozeaneum. In the Marlow Bird Park, there are children's guided tours on the topic of species protection. The zoo also features attractions such as prairie dogs, bison enclosures, kangaroos, and raccoons.

Tim Schikora, the chairman of the state zoo association and director of the Schwerin Zoo, encourages visitors to speak directly to keepers and staff, providing an opportunity to learn more about the animals and the work done at the zoos.

The joint State Zoo Day has been taking place for 15 years, attracting around three million people annually, with around 50,000 as regular holders of annual passes. The event is a great way to promote conservation and education about wildlife, while providing a fun day out for families.

For detailed and current information on the State Zoo Day in Wismar, we recommend consulting official local government tourism websites or the official websites or social media pages of Wismar Zoo and other participating zoos in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for precise dates, participating cities, activities, and free entry information for children.
