IWC's Pioneering Scottish Store Blends Traditional Watchmaking with Modern Design Aesthetics

In the heart of Edinburgh, on Princes Street, Swiss watch brand IWC has opened its first standalone boutique, showcasing an exclusive collection of watches and a captivating textile installation by renowned sculptor David Nott.

David Nott, known for his intricate and thought-provoking work, was commissioned to create a bespoke installation for the new boutique. The collaboration provided Nott with the unique opportunity to explore the interplay between precision and softness in his work, as he aimed to make the installation feel engineered, with a focus on texture.

The installation, inspired by the sculptural form of the IWC Ingenieur Automatic 42 in Black Ceramic, challenges the traditional boundaries of textile art. Nott was fascinated by the balance between utility and elegance in the IWC Ingenieur, and the process of interpreting the watch's dimensionality in yarn was the most rewarding part for him.

The installation is not just about visual resemblance to IWC watches, but about capturing their spirit. It honours the design's spirit, the weight it carries, and the story it tells through form and finish. Seeing the work outside the studio, in a space that celebrates precision, innovation, and legacy, is special for Nott.

The boutique, designed in collaboration with Chisholm Hunter, includes a customer lounge and customisation studio, offering a luxurious and personalised shopping experience. The boutique features exclusive watches from the Ingenieur collection and the new Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 Top Gun Miramar.

The IWC Ingenieur's design language aligns with Nott's approach to form and construction. The contrast between taking a cold, engineered object and reimagining it through a warm, tactile medium was a key aspect of the project for Nott. The installation for IWC Edinburgh was designed to echo the integrity and craft that go into making an IWC watch.

For those visiting Edinburgh, the IWC boutique is a must-see, offering a unique blend of art and horology, and a testament to the collaboration between craftsmanship and creativity.
