In Dusseldorf's Old Town, the sausage stands as a symbol of culinary diversity - catering to both the affluent and the modest.

In the face of unreceding rain on Saturday, the Old Town Soup Kitchen in Düsseldorf, Germany, continued to serve its community on Burgplatz. The day's menu consisted of grilled sausages, lentil soup, and more, offering a warm respite from the moody weather.

The Old Town Soup Kitchen, a mainstay in Düsseldorf for three decades, is not only a provider of nourishing meals but also a hub for culture, art, and conversation. Father Wolfgang, co-founder of the soup kitchen, underscored its multifaceted role during a moderated discussion. "Man shall not live by bread alone," he said, highlighting the organization's emphasis on fostering connections and enriching community life.

Throughout the day, various musical acts graced the stage, with "Jazzophine," "Inferno," and "Dead Dates" each offering their unique contributions. All performers waived their fees, donating their performances to the Old Town Soup Kitchen. Franky, lead singer of "Inferno," expressed the bands' support for the organization, acknowledging that despite the prosperous cityscape of Düsseldorf, a soup kitchen is still needed.

Culture and the fight against exclusion and stigma were central themes throughout the event. Father Wolfgang, known for his blues harmonica skills, not only entertained the crowd but also shared stories from the daily lives of those who find solace in the soup kitchen. The Old Town Soup Kitchen prides itself on creating an open, inclusive environment where people can come together without judgment or barriers.

Generous donations were made during the event, with the city's ice hockey club EG and their supporters contributing 555.77 Euros to the Old Town Soup Kitchen's piggy bank.

At the end of the day, a grand total of 900 portions of lentil soup, 700 grilled sausages, 300 pieces of cake, 400 cups of coffee, and numerous drinks were served. The festival on Burgplatz was made possible by nearly 50 volunteers from the Old Town Soup Kitchen, who dedicate their time and efforts to the organization every day of the week.
