Homemade Magnets: A Simple, Entertaining Project Ideal for Gifts

In this article, we'll guide you through a simple and budget-friendly DIY project: creating your very own magnets. This craft, known as DIY Magnets, is one of the easiest crafts ever and requires no specific skills, making it suitable for beginners and children.

Here's what you'll need to get started:

  • 5 flat glass marbles
  • 2 rolls of washi tape (choose 2 coordinating patterns)
  • 2 sheets of scrapbook paper (white is recommended)
  • Mod Podge or adhesive spray
  • 5 magnets

For a more durable finish, particularly in a kitchen environment where the magnets will receive plenty of use, adhesive spray is recommended. If you're using an inkjet printer and Mod Podge, it's advisable to spray both sides of the printout with hairspray or a spray sealer before use.

To create your DIY magnets, follow these steps:

  1. Lay a sheet of scrapbook paper on a flat surface.
  2. Place a marble in the centre of the paper.
  3. Wrap the marble with washi tape, covering it completely.
  4. If using Mod Podge, brush a thin layer over the wrapped marble. For adhesive spray, spray the marble evenly.
  5. Press down the marble firmly to ensure a good bond.
  6. Carefully cut around the marble, separating it from the excess paper.
  7. Trim the excess paper to create a neat edge.
  8. Attach the magnet to the back of the wrapped marble using E-6000 (if desired). Note that E-6000 is optional and not essential for the craft.
  9. Allow the adhesive to dry for several hours (if using adhesive spray) or 24 hours (if using E-6000) before using.

This craft makes for a thoughtful gift for various occasions such as birthdays, holidays, or just because. It's also a fun, hands-on activity that sparks creativity.
