Historical Walk Through Gronau's Old Town

Each Sunday morning, local history enthusiasts gather for a guided walk through Gronau's historic district. The latest excursion, led by HD Haun, sent more than 20 participants, hailing from both Gronau and neighboring municipalities, even on a rainy day.

The walk began at the "Alte Lindenhof," originally the "Krein" inn on Schlodderdicher road. Participants were welcomed with an ages-old tradition, the "Pfingstsingen," a local song performed by the "Pengsjonge," followed by a spirited breakfast of eggs, bacon, and drinks.

A compelling stopover was the Wachendorff site, where remnants of the past were contrasted with national landmarks no longer standing. The group was also enlisted to assist in the restoration of an old mill.

As photos and drawings of the "inn at the Kradepohl" were unveiled, now replaced by a car wash, murmurs of dismay lingered within the group, starkly highlighting the passage of time.

The historical walk continued past the Wohnpark Gronau, where the former slaughterhouse once stood. The contemporary building now towered diagonally opposite the refurbished "Gasthaus Klever," once a sports hotel, now a multi-family house.

Climbing the railway embankment, the group discovered the disused track at the "Gronau main station." Further explanations about the villas at the head of Richard Zander Street left some members eager to return for a cool drink at Pascalina, inn "Bützler."

All in all, the event offered a new perspective on Gronau's rich history, showcasing the town's architectural and cultural heritage in a meaningful and engaging way. Future walking tours may include additional historical sites and immerse attendees in the fascinating stories that make Gronau the unique place it is today.

During the walk, Forum Gronau's Elvi Reudenbach documented the experience and shared her historic insights, providing valuable context for understanding the town's past, present, and future.

In the heart of Gronau, a home-and-garden traditional inn, the "Krein" on Schlodderdicher road, currently known as the "Alte Lindenhof," hosted the age-old Pfingstsingen, adding a charming mix of culture and lifestyle to the historical tour.

Reflecting on the transformation of the town, plans for future walks are considering the inclusion of home-and-garden sites, such as the once-bustling inn at the Kradepohl, now replaced by a car wash, offering a poignant glimpse into Gronau's changing lifestyle throughout the years.
