The Heidschnuckenweg, a 223-kilometer long hiking trail spanning more than 30 heath areas, has secured the second spot in the competition for "Germany's most beautiful hiking trail." This prestigious title was bestowed upon the trail by the German Hiking Magazine (Wandermagazin) for 2024.

The Heidschnuckenweg, which was opened in 2012, is a flagship for the entire Lüneburger Heide. It is divided into 13 stages, each exploring the most beautiful spots in the region. The Heideschleife Büsenbachtal, a 13.4-kilometer-long circular hiking trail, is one of its most popular sections. This trail, which offers a unique natural experience, also includes the highest elevation of the trail, the 129-meter-high Brunsberg.

The Heidschnuckenweg's current popularity is due to the magnificent heather bloom in the Büsenbachtal. For those seeking more nature to discover, twelve additional heath loops ranging from 1.4 to 20.9 kilometers are available.

The trail passes through diverse beech forests, enchanted valleys, and wide heathlands. It is part of the "Top Trails - Germany's most beautiful hiking trails" network and offers relaxation in harmony with a unique natural experience.

The district of Harburg maintains and develops the Büsenbachtal in the interest of nature conservation. The Heidschnuckenweg has been recertified as a quality hiking trail for the fifth time by the "Quality Hiking Trail Wanderbares Deutschland" of the German Hiking Association.

Rainer Rempe, the district administrator, expressed his happiness about the repeated award of the Heidschnuckenweg. For more information, visit www.heidschnuckenweg.de.

While the Heidschnuckenweg took second place, the Osterspaier Langhalsweg on the Romantic Rhine was awarded the first place for day hikes by public vote. The Grüne-Hölle-Tour Bollendorf in the Eifel region came in second place for day hikes. The Manderscheider Burgenstieg, previously awarded Germany’s Most Beautiful Hiking Trail 2019 (long-distance category), also made it to the top three. These trails stand out for their scenic landscapes, including mystical forests, deep valleys, rugged rock formations with imposing castles, tranquil wine villages, and hospitable local communities offering regional specialties and wine.

Only the Caspar-David-Friedrich-Weg in Saxon Switzerland was rated higher than the Heidschnuckenweg. The Heidschnuckenweg's second place finish is a testament to its enduring appeal and the dedication of those who maintain and develop it. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or a nature enthusiast, the Heidschnuckenweg offers a unique and memorable hiking experience.

The Heidschnuckenweg, with its focus on outdoor-living and natural beauty, seamlessly integrates with the home-and-garden lifestyle of those who value interactions with nature.
