Omsk Residents Discover Abundant Mushroom Harvest in Forests During May Holidays
Local residents of the Omsk region in Russia have been sharing their successful mushroom foraging findings in the "Mushrooms. Omsk and Omsk Oblast Mushroom Pickers" group on VKontakte. The majority of the mushroom discoveries have been concentrated in the Omsk and Tar districts.
One resident, in the workers' settlement of Tevriz, collected approximately 16 kilograms of mushrooms. In the village of Dachny, residents gathered two full buckets of morels.
A local resident described their findings, "I was between Berezany and Zelenovka today, there are mushrooms. I gathered a bag of morel caps and morels. Everything in the photo is from two clearings and in an hour."
During the May holidays, residents of Omsk have been sharing their mushroom collection sites in buckets.
According to reports, the mushroom season has started in nearly 16 regions across Russia, including the Omsk region. Local foragers primarily focus on harvesting morels, known as cap mushrooms, and stitches. These early seasonal mushrooms are commonly the first to appear in local forests after winter, making them the most common finds for foragers in Omsk during May.
Mushrooms such as marsupial mushrooms, which encompass morels, stitches, sarcoscyphs (also known as "scarlet elf bowls" or "grandmother's ears"), and morel caps, are found in damp, wooded areas and are especially plentiful at the start of the mushroom season in the region.
In summary, Omsk residents find the most mushrooms—particularly morels and stitches—in local forests at the beginning of the mushroom season, which coincides with the May holidays.
What a fascinating lifestyle for the Omsk residents! During their outdoor-living excursions in the home-and-garden of the Omsk forests, they find an abundance of mushrooms, particularly morels and stitches, during the May holidays.
