Investigation Exhibit: X-RAY Showcase at Völklinger Hütte - Exhibition "X-RAY" at Völklinger Hütte: The Lighthouse's Showcase

Hey there! Let's dive into the fascinating world of X-rays and culture with the upcoming exhibition in Volklingen's UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The X-Ray Exposition, set to open on November 8, is getting a boost from the Lighthouse Funding Programme's generous 270,000 euros, graciously provided by the Ministry of Economy of Saarland. This whole shebang is expected to be nothing short of extraordinary, gushed Minister of Economy Jürgen Barke (SPD) while announcing the grant. The ministry is bedecking around one million euros to cultural events with a regional allure, aiming to draw visitors and stimulate economic growth in the Saarland region.

This exhibition, commemorating the 130th anniversary of Roentgen's X-ray discovery in 1895, will delve way beyond technical X-ray insights, tracing its evolution from the earliest X-ray images to the pedoscope, satellite, and space exploration. But it ain't just about technology; the main event revolves around creative and cultural engagement, stretching from art and cultural history to architecture, politics, music, literature, advertising, fashion, and cinema. As General Director and Curator Ralf Beil puts it, "The catwalk collides with the Roentgen chapel, Marie Curie rubs shoulders with Thomas Mann, and Frida Kahlo joins the party."

Brace yourself, as this exhibition intends to transport visitors to far-off lands, merging art and science into an unforgettable immersive experience.

Barke, a self-proclaimed furnace aficionado, hints that the furnace shares a striking connection with X-rays - there was once an X-ray bunker for material testing there. This union of setting and narrative certainly seems to fit, like peas and carrots.

In the meantime, a 1:1.5 scale model of the "eRosita" space telescope, which probes the cosmos using X-rays, is currently under construction.

Mark your calendars, culture vultures! The X-Ray Exposition will run from November 9, 2025, to mid-August 2026.

The X-Ray Exposition's grant of 270,000 euros from the Lighthouse Project, funded by the Ministry of Economy of Saarland, is a testament to the government's support for cultural events that showcase the region's unique appeal. This exhibition, which explores the evolution of X-rays in various domains such as science, space-and-astronomy, lifestyle, and home-and-garden, is set to engage visitors in an immersive experience that blends art and science.

With creative and cultural engagements that span art, cultural history, architecture, politics, music, literature, advertising, fashion, and cinema, the X-Ray Exposition aims to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and community policy, offering a captivating journey through history and culture.
