Universal Orlando's Epic Universe Unveils Immersive How to Train Your Dragon Experience

This Friday, Universal Studios Orlando's Epic Universe will open its doors to the public, and one of its most anticipated attractions is the How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk land. This unique experience combines Viking-themed flying machines, a new ride system, and interactive storytelling to simulate dragon riding and racing, all set in the captivating world of the DreamWorks Animation franchise.

At the heart of the attraction is Hiccup's Wing Gliders, a family coaster that allows riders to fly on a dragon using a winged flying machine designed by Hiccup. The story unfolds as your glider launches before wings are attached, creating dynamic flight sensations such as swooping, soaring, and skimming over the Isle of Berk at speeds up to 45 mph. The experience is enriched with an original score and unique in-ride dialogue recorded by Jay Baruchel, the voice actor of Hiccup, ensuring a personalized and engaging ride for each guest.

For thrill-seekers, there's the Dragon Racer's Rally. This high-thrill flying attraction features Viking-made dragon-riding trainers that allow riders to practice aerobatic maneuvers and high-speed barrel rolls, reaching up to 67 feet high. The attraction showcases a ride system brand new to Universal Destinations & Experiences, indicating innovative technology in the ride mechanics that simulates the gravity-defying flight of dragons in an interactive way.

The dragons in Berk are not just characters; they are part of the land's story-play, adding to Berk's immersion. Strategically placed throughout the park, each dragon represents its abilities and coexists with the Vikings of Berk. One of the highlights is Pouncer, a hybrid of Toothless and Lightfury, which moves independently and on all fours, resembling the movement of Boston Dynamics robots. Pouncer does not breathe fire, but its design resembles a flame-throwing robot style, providing entertainment for visitors.

Another interesting feature is the snow wraith dragon, which emits an icy blast at unsuspecting passers-by. Character meet and greets with dragon riders Hiccup and Astrid, along with their winged friends, offer magical experiences. However, so far, the visit has not included watching The Untrainable Dragon, the land's stage show featuring a flying dragon.

The Isle of Berk stands out for its advanced technology in bringing the fantasy to life. The movement of the dragons, the interactive rides, and the seamless technology that allows Toothless and Pouncer to articulate and react life-like create an immersive and captivating experience for visitors. The Viking world of "How to Train Your Dragon" is now open for visitors at Universal Orlando's Epic Universe, offering a unique blend of adventure, technology, and storytelling that evokes the same "cuteness aggression" as dogs or cats.
